Aims to summarize current knowledge for plant biodesign, enable design–build–test–learn tools driven by artificial intelligence (AI), and explore the potential of automation for plant biodesign, presented as three themes within the issue:

  • Theme 1: Biological Parts for Plant Biodesign (deadline: Aug. 31, 2021)
  • Theme 2: AI-Based Learning for Plant Biodesign (deadline: Dec. 31, 2022)
  • Theme 3: Automation for Plant Biodesign (deadline: Mar. 31, 2023)

Designing Proteins With New Folds and Function: Where Do We Stand and What Have We Learned?

The goal of this special issue is to provide an overview of the various factors and adjacent areas of science contributing to advancements in protein designs, to yield insights on the lessons learned from the successes and failures along the way and assess where the field stands today and the promise it holds for the future.

Engineering Microbiomes for Biodesign Applications

This special issue’s goal is to provide a snapshot of the rapidly evolving field of microbiome engineering. The challenges and opportunities discussed in this issue will guide the thriving research community to a bright future with a huge number of potential applications.
