Special Issue

Scope

Metamaterial (MTM) is currently a widely used term referring to certain materials/systems/devices that exhibit special properties normally not found in nature, based on the artificial functional structure units in them instead of the materials they are composed of. J. Zhou, T.J. Cui, H.X. Peng, R.H. Fan, and colleagues summarize the recent progress of metamaterial research in this special issue. Its scope mainly covers reconfigurable metasurfaces, programmable coding metamaterials, photonic crystals, broadband negative refraction, topological RF circuits, high harmonic generation, Smith-Purcell radiation, zero-compressibility acoustic waveguides, and modulators for terahertz communication. In addition to the above-mentioned artificially structured MTM, this special issue also includes studies on the border area of metamaterials and conventional materials, including metacomposites and randomly structured MTM.
